Environmental Policy
Intercard are committed to growing our business in a sustainable way and we endeavour to make an important contribution to reducing the environmental impact during the manufacture and use of plastic cards and our eco-friendly cards.
Intercard Ltd. is an environmentally friendly company, and we readily comply with the two directives relating to our industry, namely:
The RoHS directive (“Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances” – 2002/95/EC). This covers the reduction of end-of-life product environmental impact and the restricted use of dangerous substances during manufacturing. We ensure our manufacturing processes and those of our suppliers and partners are compliant.
The WEEE directive (“Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment” – 2002/96/EC). This covers the management of “waste” products to specifically minimise the environmental impact of end-of-life electronics and electric devices by asking manufacturers to collect and process any such product marketed post 13 August 2005.
We engage with environmental management practices because we believe it is correct to do so in delivering good governance. Our code of practice operates to “optimise packaging” and minimise waste. We focus on environmental protection, safety and hygiene of workstations, as well as energy and natural resources preservation.
Our Corporate Commitment
We have a corporate commitment to environmental management systems, and quickly react to provide bespoke compliance with an organisation’s own requirements. It also gives us a great platform to review all aspects of our business and ensure that we are doing everything possible to reduce waste and energy consumption.
Intercard Ltd has made investments in systems that conform to ISO9001 and ISO14001. By offering systems that match these accreditations we give our customers the confidence that we are setting standards in the industry for quality and environmental processes.
Actions we take to reduce our impact on the environment
- Utilisation of Re-cycled Materials: Where practicable, existing materials are re-used in our processes. Plastic waste is separately collected, shredded and recycled. All non-secure paper/cardboard waste is sent for re-cycling. Secure waste is disposed of in a highly secure manner. Selective sorting of daily waste is undertaken in both manufacturing and administrative areas.
- Energy Conservation: We aim to minimise the consumption of energy by considering energy conservation, energy efficiency and reductions in energy pollution. Our latest generation systems ensure energy efficiency.
- Production Efficiencies: ‘Spoils’ and waste are minimised by: accurate data transfer and the use of the latest, very highly maintained card personalisation, mailing and fulfilment systems.
- Transport: We utilise less polluting and more energy efficient modes of transport wherever practicable.
- Other: High consideration is given over to local sourcing.
